HOW TO - set up an avatar

An avatar is the small picture that you can see underneath peoples' names in their posts.

If you want one, you have two choices. Pick a ready made one from the selection we have on offer, or, design your own and use it.

1) Ready made avatars.
a) Log in with your regular user name
b) Click the PROFILE icon under the title
c) Go to the bottom of the page (Avatar control panel) and click "SHOW GALLERY"
d) There are currently three galleries (Ambient, Faces and Southpark) - select one from the "Select category" drop down and various avatars will be displayed.
e) When you've seen one that you like, click the radio button under it
f) Go to the bottom of the page and click "Select avatar"

2) Own design avatars.
There are three methods of doing this - if you know about Upload from URL or Off-site linking., then you don't really need this guide. However, if you have a small image (100x100 pixels, 6kb maximum) on your computer, then follow these instructions.
a) Log in with your regular user name
b) Click the PROFILE icon under the title
c) Go to the bottom of the page (Avatar control panel) and click the BROWSE button next to "Upload Avatar from your machine"
d) This will take you to a small Explorer interface, which will allow you to navigate your computer and select your chosen image
e) When you have found your image, click "OPEN" on the Explorer and then "SUBMIT" in the Avatar control panel - if your image is within the size range permitted, then you've done it - you'll see a "Your profile has been updated" message.
